RMA forecasts a slight increase in U.S. tire shipments this year

According to the mid-year forecast released by the American Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA), 314.1 million tires will be shipped in the United States in 2016, up just 0.2% from 313.5 million in 2015.
On the whole, the shipment of light truck tires will show a steady growth in 2016, while the shipment of passenger tires and truck tires will turn from a very moderate growth to a slight decline.
In terms of product types, RMA predicts:
Shipments of original passenger tires will only increase to 49.8 million in 2016, compared with 49.7 million in 2015. Replacement tire shipments will drop from 206.1 million in 2015 to 205 million in 2016.
Shipments of original light truck tires will reach 4.8 million units in 2016, compared with 4.4 million units in 2015. Replacement light truck tire shipments will rise to 30.8 million units this year from 29.1 million units last year.
Shipments of original truck tires will drop from 6.2 million to 5.3 million, while shipments of replacement truck tires will increase from 17.9 million to 18.5 million.
